Height: 5-8 If newlywed (as of Oct. 26) Jimi Scott hadn't been a champion rollerskater, he might not have become such a hot snowboarder. That goes all the way back to the late '80s, though. More recently, among other feats, Scott won the halfpipe contest at the 1996 U.S. Open at Stratton Mountain and now he's looking to compete in the Olympics. He's nursing a broken wrist, suffered while training with the U.S. Snowboard Team in Europe in early December. But Scott is determined to maintain his spot as one of the premier freestyle riders in snowboarding.
Comment: "When I look at the Olympics, I see I'm still in my competition 'window' to go. I've got so much experience I think I have a good chance of winning a medal. Being part of the history [of snowboarding in the Winter Games] is payment in itself for what we'll have pioneered." Start-up: A three-time professional rollerskating world champion, he won a snowboard in one World Cup but didn't try it for two seasons, until 1989 when he entered snowboarding at the Utah Winter Games at Powder Mountain - and won. He rode his way through various regional events, winning the Rocky Mountain Snowboard Series and qualifying for the U.S. Open. "I was fifth and that started my career. All these guys- oh my gosh, a bunch of rippers - it was so much fun, and still is." Other sports: A surfer since he was seven ("a professional non-competitive surfer"), also enjoys body-boarding, skin-boarding, motorcycling, street-style and pool skateboarding Altared state: Wife Kristy graduates in December from Cal State San Marcos with a degree in liberal studies and communications. She and Scott honeymooned in Costa Rica Music: "It doesn't matter as long as it flows." Chow: Scott enjoys cooking Mexican food and holding a barbecue ("It's an easy cleanup"). And...: "I'm a sucker for chocolate chip ice cream." Tattoo: "Nope. My mom said, 'I don't care how old you get, I'll still spank you if you get a tattoo.'" Silver screen: "The 'Star Wars' trilogy is probably the best thing I've ever seen." Reading: "Maybe I'll read the instructions on how to operate a videocam but otherwise..." Hair apparent: His short locks have been replaced by longer locks this season. "It's more beachy and portrays the California kid I really am ... and long hair means it's hard to wear goggles."
