Viesturs's three day ascent of Lhotse with Rob Hall came seven days after climbing Everest. Taking advantage of their hard-won acclimatization on Everest, the pair stormed up Lhotse. 1994 marked the beginning of a climbing tactic that Hall and Viesturs would continue the following year: tandem ascent of 8000m peaks.
