Giant Slalom- March 6, 1999
Chris Rice ripped up the course in today's giant slalom to take 1st with a 2-run combined result of 99.270 and no penalties. Reid Sabin from Whitefish, MT was 2nd at 1.97 back and Taug Boschen, also from Montana, took 3rd place 3.24 at back. Dave Terwilliger from Lake Placid, NY took 4th and Glen Gustafson took 5th under beautiful skies at Stevens Pass.

Local telemark skier Carole Hill stole 1st in the women's event, skiing two solid runs to beat Cody Thompson, winner of yesterday's sprint classic race, by .52. Thompson had three penalty points that cost her the raceshe was in 1st place before penalties were factored in. After that, Thompson moved to a respectable 2nd place, and last year's GS winner Lori Stahler took 3rd at 3.09 back. Another local in the top-5, Cheryl Vanderhorn, took 4th place and Canadian Angela Shomker showed up for the fun this weekend and took 5th.
