Good morning Mountain Zone, this is Vernon Tejas with Alpine Ascents and we're in Dingboche, Nepal. Guess what we're going to do today kids? We're going to head up the hill. We've now fattened ourselves up for the feast and we've got a lot of oxygen on board, as a matter of fact we're hitting in the low 90s for our saturation. We're going to head back up to Lobuche tonight and then to Base Camp the following day. Today bloomed bright and beautiful, very little wind. We're only looking at about 11 clicks [kilometers] coming out of the west and it's clear for one of the first times in a long time. We're starting to get into a different weather pattern than what we've been seeing, with the wind and the snow, and it looks like we're starting to get clear. And we're believing that some people are heading toward the summit today, which will be good, because that would get a few of the other groups up and out of our way so that we could be up there with no traffic jams come the Hillary Step. So for those who are interested in the numbers, we're looking at...we're at 4320 meters above sea level. It was about 1 degree Celsius this morning when we woke up; it's now warmed up quite a bit since then, of course. And as mentioned, light breeze, cool, clear, calm and collected. And up we're going, nice slow hike to Lobuche today and that's all we can say. So, ciao from Dingboche. Vern Tejas, Alpine Ascents Guide and MountainZone.com Correspondent |
