Afsar Jan is also over qualified for his position. He worked as a high-altitude porter for a Japanese expedition on Broad Peak in 1997, and as a cook for an American expedition on GII in 1999. Afsar Jan, or "John," as he likes us to call him, is married, with two young sons (ages 3 and 1) at home.
