Anwar has already been to this side of K2, working as a high-altitude porter for Steve Swenson's 1990 American-Australian expedition. Anwar has seven children — five sons, and two daughters. The eldest, Samir La, is 20 years old. All of his sons are named after "La," a high mountain pass: Karim La, Sapir La, Sanao La, and Pidao La. His daughters names are Nilo Far and Anwar Safina. His wife, Mahi, is 35.
