Hello this is Jake Malinz from the Spanish Royal Expedition at Annapurna Base Camp speaking on behalf of the American Expedition group of four: Ed Viesturs, Veikka Gustafsson, Neal Beidleman and Michael Kennedy. Today, April 14th, the team has reached Camp II. After a two-hour-and-a-half climb they arrived at an altitude of 18,400 feet and by 11 o'clock they were already setting the tents at Camp II.
Lately, this afternoon after 12 o'clock we've had snow and the weather has been until this time — right now it's 6 o'clock in the afternoon — it is snowing and we have bad weather. But when I talked to Ed Viesturs and the members of his team they were very comfortable already, inside the tents.
The plan for tomorrow is to climb up to Camp III. Actually, what they are going to try is to find the route up to Camp III and find a place to set up Camp III (click for photo of climbing route: 42k). They'll be back tomorrow night to sleep back at Camp II. This is all what concerns to the American Expedition, leadered by Ed Viesturs.
The Spanish Expedition is already in Camp I and they are planning tomorrow to go forward to Camp II to make a deposit. The weather is not very good, so the mountain will be with a lot of snow. And if the weather is not so good tomorrow, the members of the Spanish Expedition, they will camp down. The Spanish Expedition is of seven members. The leader is Josep A. Pujante, also it's [Unintelligible], Borca Basqual from Madrid, Josep Vieko from the Basque country. There is an international member — it's Oubo Ouluak from Turkey. And myself, Jake Malinz from Barcelona.
This expedition is sponsored with half of the high patronage of the Kingdom of Spain and the Kingdom of Nepal and also is supported by the UN. Also we are carrying the Olympic flag and the purpose of the expedition is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first climb of [Unintelligible] to an 8000-meter mountain.
