| | Hi, it's Ed Viesturs reporting on Mountain Zone. It's the evening of April 12th and we've spent another day here at Base Camp.
It's quite breezy and chilly here still early in April. It's quite nice to be here. Other than Veikka and myself, and Dimitri and Alex, we're the only climbers here right now. It's quite nice to be isolated and alone and have the mountain to ourselves for a while. We know there will be several other teams coming probably, but probably not until later towards the end of the month.
The yaks are all gathered up and their kind of wandering around camp right now as we'll be loading them up earlier in the morning and doing our trek towards Advanced Base Camp. The walk should take us about 5 hours or so up the valley closer towards Shishapangma, and from that point we can unload all of our gear, start sorting it, and then start working our way up the hill.
The weather has been pretty much the same, breezy and windy, clear skies, a few fluffy clouds floating around. It's quite beautiful here though on the plateau. Earth tones prominently throughout the area, browns and greens, and then the horizon is filled with white snowy peaks and above that a cobalt sky. So quite an area of beautiful contrasts.
We're excited to get going a little bit further up the trail and Advanced Base Camp will be somewhat more protected from the wind, as it's tucked in-between a couple of moraines closer into the mountain. So, I'll check in again tomorrow evening after we've arrived at Advanced Base Camp. That's it for now. Ed Viesturs signing out.
