| | Hi, Ed Viesturs calling from Nyalam, Tibet. It's Monday, April 9th, and it's about 1:30pm Nepal time.
We're staying on Nepal time simply because Chinese time is a little bit odd. They have one time zone, it's Beijing time. No matter where you are in this huge country, it's one time zone, so were sticking to what is normal and that’s Nepal time. So it's about 1:30.
We just got back from a little bit of a training climb. We climbed for about 3 hours and climbed to the top of a neighboring peak, which is about 15,900 feet. So we gained about 3,600 feet today, which is really good. It's gonna help us down the road to get some exercise and also now, while we are hanging out at these villages to gain some altitude, because when the jeep drops us off in a couple of days at Base Camp, it's going to be at about 14,000 feet. We are going to have wanted to gain some other altitude before we plop down and look like a couple of fish out of water. So we're done for the day.
It was quite windy and snowing a little bit as we reached the top of the peak. We got down very quickly in about a half-hour. The climb itself was pretty simple, straightforward. A little bit windy, the sun was out, so we had a lot of fun. We are here right now hanging out and we will probably do the same tomorrow, maybe not the same peak, but will go and do some other type of climb to gain a little bit more altitude and then on Wednesday we will be jumping into a Land Rover and driving into Base Camp.
So that’s it for now. Everything is going well. Veikka sends his regards to all of his followers, fans and family, as do I and we will check in tomorrow.
Thanks for checking in on Mountain Zone.
