For renowned climber Wally Berg, photography is a natural adjunct to his more famous exploits:

"The camera is always along," he said. "Often stuffed in the middle of a pack because you start climbing in the night and moving efficiently for hours and hours is all that matters. The morning light is, like the summit, a distant goal. Your effort is the first part, then the mountain decides — The South Summit of Everest in the clouds, or for that matter Uhuru Peak on Kilimanjaro in an ice storm, are places where getting down becomes primary."

His Nikon bodies are dinged and bent from hard use, but when they do come out to the pack, or off the floor of the Land Rover, they record stunning images from the amazing place Berg visits-including the summit of Everest four times.

"I often find myself handling the cameras with the same comfortable familiarity that I have for one of my ice axes. We’ve been a lot of places together. My photography is about dirty lenses in the right place at the right time. And rare opportunities."
