1999 NORBA Mountain Biking Index Mount Snow Finals! These are the national finals, the race which names our U.S. National Champions, NORBA champions, U.S. team for Worlds, recipient of the Richard Long trophy and best butt in the naked crit. Hot Racing in Sin City Park City, Utah - or "Sin City" as some locals call it - heated up last weekend for plenty of mountain bike action, as round five of the NORBA NCS arrived for one last event of the '99 season before the finals in Mt. Mixin It Up at Mammoth It's all about old-school mingling with new-school, Mammoth Mountain combining the best of both worlds at its annual rite of summer mountain bike race. The most notable result of the day was also the most noteworthy of the entire weekend. Chris Kovarik, in only his third-ever race in the U.S., beat out an elite field to take his first NCS win. Riders Bounce on Seven Springs Myles Rockwell (USA, Giant) is the man this year. He decided to extend his career another season, after two years of injuries and bad luck had him doubting whether he still belonged in the crazy sport of downhilling. He hadn’t taken an NCS victory since 1995, when he won both Mammoth and Vail.. Larsen, Dunlap Shine For the second day in a row, Steve Larsen (LL. Bean-Mongoose) and Team GT rider Alison Dunlap took top honors at the Chevy Trucks National Championship Series at Welch Village Resort, Minnesota. After taking first place in the Saturday's cross-country, Larsen and Dunlap made quick recoveries and dominated Sunday's short-track cross-country. Kickin' Down in So. Cal For the third consecutive year, Snow Summit at Big Bear is kicking off the Norba national championship series. Appropriately, this all-American tour starts in all-American southern California, where flashy colors, full-face helmets, and huge, shiny, big rig team trucks will surround a tent city full of sponsors and vendors.
