Lesley Burvill-Holmes is a Seattle photographer specializing in black & white and alternative Polaroid processes. She studied photography in London, England, and Victoria, British Columbia, before moving to Seattle. These images were taken on a 1998 trip to Sikkim with Sherpa Himalayan Treks.

"The mountain landscape and rhododendron forests of Sikkim were breathtaking," said Burvill-Holmes, "but it was the people who inspired love: our Sherpa porters, the native Lepcha people, and the many Tibetan refugees we encountered. The focus of these photographs are their faces: the children, the monks, the families, and workers who showed us kindness and a love for life despite their poor material circumstances."
