McGuirk's Meadow

It started to look as though the day was not going to amount to much of anything. We were spending more time in the truck than on the trail and a few of us were getting frustrated. Finally, John said, "Let me out here and if I have to, I will walk back to the campsite on my own, but I have to get out of this truck!"

With that we pulled off the road, got our stuff together and walked a trail that began at McGuirk's Meadow in Yosemite National Park. It was simply an awesome hike; 2.9 miles of mostly gentle elevations, walking through an autumn meadow, crossing Bridalveil Creek, and getting to Dewey Point as the sun was beginning to hide itself over the edge of the valley.

"Maybe it was the fact that this trail is not crowded with tourists who do not appreciate the peace and quiet one can find in an open meadow...."

Standing on the precipice of a sheer granite wall, I realized once again how fortunate I am to live close to such an incredible exhibit of the power of nature. I have done several day hikes in Yosemite, but none was as enjoyable (and spiritual) as this one. Maybe it was the fact that this trail is not crowded with tourists who do not appreciate the peace and quiet one can find in an open meadow. Maybe it was the camaraderie of hiking with my brother and his son, or maybe it was just breathing the air that only belongs to Yosemite.

If you are a Yosemite hiker, I recommend this trail highly. It is a good hike and an even more beautiful sight once you get to the point and look down into the valley.
