TIBET TIME:

Kristoffer Erickson

Since he's usually behind a camera rather than in front of one, you might not recognize this prolific climber/skier. Erickson has made a number of ski descents in the Northern Rockies, in Alaska and abroad. He also established a new alpine route in Peru and has climbed in Pakistan's Karakoram Range.

Kristoffer Erickson has accomplished great mountaineering feats around the world, as both a climber and a skier. He represents a rare breed of alpinist, combining his abilities to ascend difficult mountains with his love and passion for a true sliding descent. His traditional style and ethics in climbing blend with a romance for finding projects in the last frontiers of exploration around the world.

Kristoffer Erickson
Alaska
In the Cordillera Blanca of Peru, he pioneered new alpine climbing routes on the southwest face of Santa Cruz Norte (5829 meters) and the unclimbed Caraz III (5720 meters) via the south face. Erickson also made a premiere ski descent of the northwest ridge of Tocllaraju (6032 meters) and a ski descent of the southeast face of Artesonraju (6025 meters). In Pakistan, as a member of the Karakoram Cleaning and Climbing Expedition, he worked for a less polluted, healthier environment by educating porters while also attempting an unclimbed 5998-meter peak.

A native Montanan, Erickson proudly calls Bozeman his home. He has teamed up with worthy partners to compile a comprehensive list of first ascents on some of Montana's hardest mixed ice climbs. He has made difficult premiere ski mountaineering descents in Montana, Wyoming and Alaska and has compiled a lengthy list of difficult descents throughout North America. Many of these ski descents were, at one point in history, considered classic alpine climbs.

Kristoffer Erickson has been only sporadically noticed for his achievements as an athlete because he's usually the one taking the photographs. With his camera in hand, Erickson has documented adventures around the world in editorial and commercial publications throughout the outdoor industry. Erickson's love for photography and exploration has allowed his avocation and vocation to merge, creating a fully developed mountain adventure.
