Darsney Takes Over Phone Friday, June 25, 1999 9:37pm (PST)
Hey guys, this is Scott Darsney at 17,000ft. We arrived here about 5:30 this afternoon after waiting for a hand off from Vernon. You guys probably heard from Vernon on the summit yesterday, he got all five of his people up and Vern and Tom are psyched about that. We met up at 16,000ft and we did a gear swap; they left tents and a cook tent up here at 17,000 for us. Right now it's snowing lightly, I guess snowing heavily now, probably about 15 degrees, it's fairly warm, but my fingers are getting cold holding this cell phone. I've go to stand out on these rocks at the top of the "Rescue Gully" here on Denali. So anyway, we'll keep pumping reports, we've got lots of batteries and hopefully we'll all be doing okay here. Everyone's feeling good and strong. The weather forecast looks possible. Just have to take it one day at a time here. I think down low it's going to be kind of crappy, but if the winds are still we might try to go for the summit tomorrow or the next day. But I think we prefer to have a rest day tomorrow, but if it is a stellar day tomorrow we might try to move up. Otherwise we're going to hang here a day at 17. Had a great day at 16. Everyone is in good spirits here, we're having a good time and we've got our Tiki torch up here at 17 now. So hopefully we're going up to the summit here in a couple of days. We'll check back in, in a little bit. We'll see y'all, this is Scott Darsney signing off. Alpine Ascents Guide Scott Darsney, MountainZone.com Correspondent
