Good Morning Mountain Zone. This is Vernon Tejas down in Punta Vacas, Argentina. I'm here with Team Omega and we are doing some cold weather studies on Cerro Aconcagua. My companion, mi compadre, Bob Elias is here as well. We are going to take some measurements of the climate and also gather some bio-data while we are here. This is in preparation for a future project down in Antarctica. We've had a rough time getting started. We were escorted off the mountain and taken into custody several days ago by the local border police. We had to explain to them what our mission was, and we were still denied access. After that, we had to drop back to the city of Mendoza and get a special permit for the park service to override the local, ruling, junta, if you will. We are now just beginning, once again, to go up the Vacas Valley, which means "cow" valley, just to the east of Aconcagua, a mountain that sits at 6,959 meters above sea level.
