You need a FREE media player to listen.Hi Mountain Zone, this is Robert Anderson. I got your last message. I'll be doing the North Ridge on Mount Everest, so you follow the North Ridge up to the East Rongbuk Glacier to the North Col, then up the North Ridge, on to the Northeast Ridge and along back to the summit which is pretty much the normal route from the north side of the mountain. Just an update, I left Kathmandu a couple days ago and got up to Zhangmu, the good thing about going in winter is the road's pretty dry. So, I had a pretty uneventful trip except for one truck seemed to fall over in front of us and was lying dead in the road taking up most of it. So we had to ease our way around that. We spent a night in Zhangmu, about 9,000ft, and then moved on up to Nyalam the next day, which wasn't too much higher, about 12,000ft, but we stopped there to pick up a Tibetan cook-boy, just to carry the water and help us do the odd chores around camp. From Nyalam we went over a pass, at about 17,000ft, the Nyalam La and on to Tingri which is just below Cho Oyu and Everest, which we could see both very, very clearly. Everest had a big cap of cloud on it though, so the summit was looking a bit fearsome. We had some very good momos in Tingri, which is quite famous for them. We had meat inside of them, we think it might be mystery meat, which we never ask too many questions about. The road is pretty icy in places, but generally fairly good, so the problems that I expected might develop have fortunately faded away. There's was an Italian group in here just about one month ago and they had a big storm on the 18th and 19th of October and they literally had to leave all of their vehicles at Base Camp and walk out to the next village down, in order to get out from the mountain. They left everything at Advanced Base Camp as well. So we're hoping to find a cappuccino machine up there. Well I'm settled into Base Camp, we'll be acclimatizing probably tomorrow and then starting on up and looking at Advanced Base Camp. We're not quite sure whether we can get yaks up very far up the trail this time of year, but we're going to go have a look and see what we can do.
