Hello this is Jake Malinz from the Spanish Royal Expedition, talking on behalf of the American Expedition Ed Viesturs, Veikka Gustafsson, Neal Beidleman, and Michael Kennedy. The news for today, April 19, 2000, are the following: This morning at 7:30 the party of four, lead by Ed Viesturs, they went to Camp I with intention of looking for a route on the East Ridge of Annapurna. When they arrive to the Camp I at 11 hours, more or less, the weather was very bad; the visibility was not very good. So they decided to postpone that activity for tomorrow. So they are staying at Camp I for tonight. Concerning Base Camp news, yesterday, April 18th, finally the French Military Expedition party of eight they arrived to the Base Camp of Annapurna. Concerning the Spanish Royal Expedition, tomorrow morning they will leave Base Camp towards Camp I and the team has been divided in two teams. One will go to the normal Camp II to explore the useful routes of the French Classical-Dutch [French Route/Dutch Rib] or the German Route. They will go back to Camp I to sleep and on the morning of the 21st they will decide if they continue on that route or if they join forces with the American Expedition on the East Ridge. These are all the news from Base Camp of Annapurna on April 19th, 2000. This is Jake Malinz, Base Camp manager for the Royal Expedition, glad to talk to MountainZone.com.
