ABOUT TEAM TIER ONE: Team Tier One is sponsored by Lackland Federal Credit Union. The team comprises three male Air Force Pararescuemen and a female Air Force Survival, Evacuation, Rescue, and Escape instructor. Pararescue is the Air Force's most elite unit with only 300 active members, and one of the most prestigious military divisions in the world. Pararescuemen descend from the air to rescue fallen Air Force pilots and other stranded personnel behind enemy lines and in hostile environments. They undergo a rigorous 17-month training program and become experts in many Expedition Race disciplines. Team Captain Rodney Alne has served as a military instructor in mountaineering, navigation, and kayaking. Team member Anthony Alexander is a US Army Master Fitness instructor, and has been lifting weights seriously for 18 years. He is a former professional downhill skier and motocross competitor. His teammate Kenneth Fournier has twice been named Pararescueman of the Year, and is representing the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Carrie Lewis is a SERE instructor who trains Air Force cadets. Although the team is filled with distinguished athletes, they have never raced together in any formal competition. |
