He regularly competes in mountain biking, canoeing, orienteering and marathon races. Gilles was a member of The French National Kayak/Canoe Team from 1985 to 1996. He was World Cup Champion in the Canoe Slalom 1987, 1989, and 1991. He was the World Cup Champion in 1989 and 2nd in 1991 and 1996. Gilles is currently an instructor for climbing, caving, canoeing, road biking and randonnée.
